North Wilkesboro Speedway hosted its first Cup Series points race since 1996 on Sunday, and Joey Logano made sure nobody forgot it.
Logano led a career-best 323 laps and pulled away to win the Window World 450 by 0.859 seconds over Denny Hamlin, snapping a 45-race winless streak that had stretched 441 days. It was a dominant, race-controlling performance that felt like a throwback, fitting for a track that has been away from points racing for three decades.

The Race
North Wilkesboro is a 0.625-mile short track with history baked into every inch of it. The track closed after 1996 and sat dormant for years before being resurrected for special events. Sunday was its return to the points schedule, and the racing delivered exactly what the track's history demanded.
Logano was simply better than everyone else. He won Stage 2 and led so convincingly that he lapped cars all the way up to seventh place. Five cautions for 43 laps gave the field chances to close the gap, but none of them could. When it mattered, the No. 22 Ford pulled away clean.

Ty Gibbs was penalized for speeding on pit road during a stage caution and had to restart Stage 2 from the rear. He still finished fourth and won Stage 1, but the penalty kept him from turning elite speed into a real shot at the win.

Shane van Gisbergen's fifth-place finish deserves its own note. The road-racing specialist delivered a career-best Cup short-track result, led 49 laps, and spent the night looking more comfortable on an oval than he has at any point in his NASCAR transition.
For a driver already dangerous on road courses, that matters. If SVG keeps finding speed on short tracks and intermediate ovals, his playoff ceiling changes in a hurry.
Points Picture
Denny Hamlin's second-place finish keeps him at the top of the standings, and his late-season surge already has him in a commanding position heading toward the Playoffs. Chase Briscoe, who won at Chicagoland two weeks ago, finished third and continues to build momentum at exactly the right time of year.
Logano's win may matter even more around the cutoff. The victory moved him back inside the Chase picture after entering the weekend outside the cutoff, turning a historic night into a standings reset for the No. 22 team.
